Report: Roads & Kingdoms - Valle de Guadalupe's Water Crisis

The growing demand for water looms as the primary obstacle for the continued growth of Valle de Guadalupe's wine and tourist industries.  Jackie Bryant provides the details in this well reported piece posted on the Roads and Kingdom site.

Deckman's Website

In anticipation of our trip to the Valle tomorrow for a Thanksgiving feast at Deckman's en el Mogor, I was noodling around the internet and discovered that the Deckman group of restaurants has updated their website.

A Rick Bayless Video

Chef Rick Bayless came to San Diego for a food and wine festival and managed to make the most of his trip by spending a few days in Baja.  He posted a video on Facebook as he was touring Valle de Guadalupe.

Trip Report: Cheese and Biscuits

Liceaga  •  El Cielo  •  Casa Lupita  •  Tres Valles  •  Deckman's

A couple of items in this trip report do not ring true (describing Tres Valles as swanky, and I have never been rushed through a meal at Deckman's in 20 minutes).

Shout Out: Forbes - 5 Notable Wineries

Not a bad list, but given the mistakes in this post (50 wineries; Hwy 33) I am pretty sure the author has never been to the Valle.

Shout Out: Munchies - La Cocina de Doña Esthela

I must admit to a bit of snarkiness when Doña Esthela's machaca con huevos was named "World's Best Breakfast" by Foodie Hub.  It wasn't that the dish was mediocre (it's absolutely delicious) but rather that the designation "World's Best" was a bit silly.  Putting the silliness of the hyperbole aside, the award has put a spotlight on Doña Esthela and her food which has made her restaurant a must stop for Valle visitors.

Business is booming at Doña Esthela's restaurant and there is no one more deserving of her success.

Meet the Winemaker Dinners at Bracero

Photo credit: Fernando Gaxiola - Facebook

Traveling to the Valle is one of life's great pleasures, but it's also great when the Valle comes north of the border.

Last night we attended the Meet the Winemaker with Lechuza dinner at chef Javier Plascencia's San Diego restaurant, Bracero. Interesting people, delicious food and world class wine made for a spectacular event.

The next Meet the Winemaker dinner is on Tuesday, October 4 and will feature the wines and winemakers from Adobe Guadalupe.  Information here:  Adobe Guadalupe Vintage Dinner

And for additional information about Valle de Guadalupe events I highly recommend following Fernando Gaxiola's company, Baja Wine + Food on Facebook.
